Sports Specific Training For Athletes

By Audrey McGuire

If you want to take care of your body while undertaking exercise, make sure that you get sports specific training. This is important because movements and actions are not the same across all exercises. If you are unfamiliar with different moves, and are not used to it, you might possibly get an injury. All successful athletes have first taken practices and training before they have reached the fitness level they are currently in right now.

Basketball is a male dominant sport mainly because it is a rough contact sport that requires a lot of strength and agility. Basketball requires the player to dribble the ball across the court, and to shoot it at the basket. Of course the opposing team will try by all means to prevent the player from scoring while avoiding a foul. This game can get a bit violent because players sometimes find a way around the rules just to prevent you from shooting the ball.

Volleyball requires quick and fast movements from the players. There would be lateral actions of the feet and legs when trying to receive the ball. When they are about to spike the ball, there is forward movement and jumping by the players. You should train your body to have great stamina for this type of sport.

Badminton is a popular sport in the Philippines and Asia because it is not an expensive sport to play. You will only need a shuttlecock, a racket, and a friend. Training can be easy, and athletes learn fast. The only thing that is hard in this sport is when you are trying to master the techniques. The movement is somewhat similar to volleyball, but badminton has a quicker pace.

Tennis may look very similar to the sport of badminton, but they are different on a lot of principles. The footing is completely different, and also the steps of the athlete. The large muscles that are used are also not the same as that in badminton. The pace in tennis is slower, but strength requirement is greater. Tennis is an expensive sport mainly because of the large space it occupies.

Taekwondo is a wonderful martial art that makes use of the strength and power of the athlete. It is an individual sport that opposes you to another athlete who is in the same level as you. You will score points by kicking your opponent without him blocking it. If he gets to block your kicks, you do not merit a point. Punches may be used, but they have no bearing on the player's score.

Muay Thai is an incredibly awesome mixed martial arts sport. It allows the athletes to kick, grapple, and punch. It is a violent sport, but the rules to maintaining safety are very strict. The goal is to knock down your opponent using your punches and kicks. Muay Thai requires a lot of skills and presence of mind.

Football focuses on the running endurance of the athlete. The player is made to run after the ball and kick it towards the goal. The team basses the soccer ball from player to player until they get to score at the other side of the field.

Each athlete needs his own specific equipment, along with his own sports specific training. If you want to participate in a certain sport, be sure to invest time and money on it. Each sport has its own rules, concepts, and strengths. You must train yourself to a certain sport to be good at it.
