Buying The Right Horseware For The Season

By Jerri Perry

Horse owners throughout the country spend a lot of money every year on new clothing for their animals. There are many different types of horseware that are suitable for the various seasons. The amount of work the animal will be required to do is also a crucial factor in deciding which types of rugs to purchase.

It takes hours of work and preparation to succeed in the show ring. Each year many riders, from young children to veteran riders who have spent decades in the saddle, take part in shows and competitions. These range from small local events that are fun and friendly all the way to national and international level contests that require very expensive horses.

A one hundred percent cotton sheet should not be put in the drier as it will most likely shrink. This can be very upsetting, especially for someone who has spent a lot of money to get a beautiful sheet in their stable colors. Most big barns and trainers have their own specific designs and color schemes. One of the reasons for this is that it helps them to keep an eye on their clients belongings when they are away at shows.

A show horse will need a lot of different blankets and sheets. During the winter horses grow a thick winter coat to keep them warm. Amazingly they can weather some frigid weather on their own. However, a horse that is in training and being ridden regularly will need to be clipped. In this process all the thick hair is shaved off. This allows them to be ridden without getting too hot and sweaty.

Cotton or cotton blend sheets are perfect for keeping a horse clean in the warmer months. They are traditionally made in a plaid pattern with a contrasting edging. It is important to choose colors that complement the horses coat. A grey or brown horse will look good in almost any color, but a chestnut horse should not wear red. Many rugs are now being made in bright colors such as pink or purple.

Many people are now shopping for their horeswares on line. They can take their time and browse the huge selection of items at their leisure. Before making a purchase it is important to make sure they are ordering the correct size. If there is any doubt it is a good idea to talk with the customer service department. They can offer pointers on measuring for rugs, tack and other items of horse clothing.

Other shoppers still prefer the individual attention of a local tack store. They can really get to know the staff and ask questions. It is nice to be able to look at the products and see which they like the best. Although a good quality run can cost a little more it is typically worth the extra expense.

The hoods are very quick to wash and dry and quite inexpensive to buy. For the hours of work they save they are totally worth the investment. They are made in a variety of colors and patterns. Hoods are one of the greatest new items of horseware to hit the market.
